SUBMIT A PROPOSAL FOR A SESSION OR A LECTURE AT THE 18TH WORLD CONGRESS OF JEWISH STUDIES

We strongly encourage the submission of proposals for complete sessions.

A complete session at the Congress consists of

4 lectures and a chairperson

OR

3 lectures, a respondent, and a chairperson

Please note: Sessions may not be organized around recently published academic monographs.

If you are not part of a pre-organized session, you may submit an individual paper. Lecturers may submit only one proposal and may present only ONCE during the Congress. An individual may serve more than once as a session chair.

SESSION PROPOSALS

  1. OPEN A WUJS USER ACCOUNT

In order to submit a session proposal, you need a user account with the World Union of Jewish Studies. If you do not have a username and password, you will be asked to sign in as a new user. Once have a user name and password, you can submit a proposal for a session at the World Congress of Jewish Studies.

  1. CREATE A SESSION

One of the lecturers or the session participants submits a proposal for a session, including

  1. a session title
  2. a general abstract (up to 250 words)
  3. full names and email addresses of the other lecturers and the chairperson.

The session should consist of four lectures or three lectures and a response, in addition to a session chair. If you cannot find four participants and a chair, you may apply with three lectures with the understanding that the Academic Committee may add a fourth lecturer to the session.

  1. SESSION PARTICIPANTS SUBMIT LECTURE PROPOSALS

The participants in the created session will receive a notification email with a request to submit their individual lecture proposals.

Role of Session Chairs

  • The session chair is responsible for introducing the lecturers and managing the time frame of the session, as well as fielding questions and comments from the audience.
  • The respondent may serve as the session chair
  • A person may serve as chair in more than one session, as long as this can be accommodated within the timetable of the Congress sessions.
  • Session chairs, like other Congress participants,  are required to pay membership and Congress fees.

INDIVIDUAL PAPER PROPOSALS

Individuals may submit proposals outside of the framework of a specific session. If the proposal is accepted, the academic committee will add you to a session at its discretion.

EVALUATION AND APPROVAL  OF PROPOSALS 

The academic committee of the World Union of Jewish will review the proposals for sessions and individual papers.

Notifications about the committee’s decisions will be sent out by February 2021.
